Objective: Upon the completion of this session you will have a vision for the power of prayer in shaping a nation, and you will be committed to praying one minute a day. You will also have the opportunity to understand the elements of a fast and will initiate a plan to fast regularly, especially on the “First Friday” of each month.
One Minute a Day God cares for your community and the nations. Though this is not emphasized in today’s culture, God’s heart for large groups of people is a strong and important biblical truth. Given the American culture of rugged individualism, each of us tends to think in terms of himself, and perhaps the immediate community. But God sees whole nations and has a plan that circles the globe. Look at what God’s Word says about nations in Job 12:23:
“He makes nations great, and destroys them, he enlarges nations and disperses them.”
What are the four things God’s Word states that he does to nations? God’s great hand forms and shapes the destiny of nations. He does this for a Kingdom purpose. Consider Acts 17:26-27:
“From one man [one blood] He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places [boundaries] where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him…”
God has made every ethnic group and nation so that: God does not force His will upon nations; instead He allows the individuals who form the nation to behave as they desire. But this does not mean God doesn’t care what decisions are made or what direction is taken.
Micah 5:15 warns of the consequences of behavior outside of God’s will:
“I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not obeyed Me.”
Communities and nations have corporate responsibilities to obey the Lord’s will – it is not just about individualism. God judges the collective actions of individuals who these groups systems and institutions, such as government, law, education, business, etc.
Here’s a tough question: What can you do to ensure that our nation is following God?
Here are three Scriptures that offer suggestions:
What did you learn from these passages?
We believe that we can “See God’s Purposes for America Fulfilled Through Sustained Prayer and Sprit Led Obedience.” This is the vision of IFA that we would like invite you to join us!
Would you consider praying one minute a day for our nation? Just one minute a day—that’s the time it takes you to tie your shoes. The time it takes you to wait at a red light. The time it takes you to pour a cup of coffee. One minute a day.
Once you submit the answers to this training you will receive an email with instruction on how you can join thousands across this nation who are praying.

To bring more power to your prayer, consider using C4. Not the explosive C4, but spiritual C4. What is spiritual C4? Character, Country, Community and Care. Prayer for each of these areas brings more power to your prayer because you are praying about more than just your own wants and desires.
So take a minute and see how you can involve C4 in your daily prayer time.
Print out C4 – Explosive Prayer and begin to use it and share it with others around you.
For many contemporary Christians, fasting is one of the most underused spiritual weapons. There is confusion, mystique, and misunderstanding about what fasting is and what it does. Simply put, fasting is a period of time that one commits to giving up food, drink, or other things in order to turn an intense focus on God and how He is at work. Fasting can bring tremendous spiritual revival and breakthrough!
One of the most descriptive passages in Scripture is found in Isaiah 58:6-8, which describes nine different categories of fasting:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter…? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healingwill quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you,and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I.”
Use the following chart to explore how you could use the spiritual tool of fasting to see renewal and breakthrough in your life:
Here are a few questions as you consider this passage: To loose the chains of injustice: What types of injustice do you see around you and in this country?
And untie the cords of the yoke: Who is being held back from reaching potential?
To set the oppressed free: What mindset is keeping you, someone you know, or our country, from God’s best?
And break every yoke: What is restraining you, someone you know, or our country, from God’s best?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter: Who is in need of food, a place to live, and other provisions?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn: Do you know someone – either personally or from a distance – in need of a new beginning? Who?
And your healing will quickly appear: Who needs healing?
Then your righteousness will go before you: Who do you know, or what part of our country, needs to do the right things? The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard: Who do you know that needs protection?
F3 F3 is short for First Friday Fast. For decades, believers around the country fast on the First Friday of the month to see God move and release His blessing in this country. Would you consider joining us?
Sometimes it helps to put your thoughts in writing—both as a way of recording your prayers and as a deliberate intention to watch God work.

Objective: Upon the completion of this session you will understand the importance of being informed of current issues, where to find this information, and the importance of praying Scripture over these critical issues.
Effective prayer or intercession is based upon information. For example, when Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem were destroyed his countenance changed. He knew he had to do something because he was aware of the damaged walls and the lack of protection over a faraway province.
Read about it: Nehemiah 1:1-4
What did he do in verse two?
What did he learn in verse three?
What was his response in verse four?
Asked questions about the current situation. Learned critical information. Prayed and fasted before the God of Heaven. This is the biblical pattern of Nehemiah.
In order to effectively know how to seek God’s will for Israel, Nehemiah needed “intelligence” from an “informer.” Once he understood the situation he prayed a magnificent prayer.
Read Nehemiah 1:5-11. What do you learn about Nehemiah’s heart?
In chapters 2-5, there are many details of how the rebuilding of the wall occurred. Read the outcome in Nehemiah 5:15 where we find that not only was the wall complete, but “all the surrounding nations lost their confidence, for they realized that this task had been accomplished by our God.”
Why do you suppose Nehemiah wanted these words in the records of his ministry?
Informed intercession leads to action that leads to results. Information is a critical step in intercession. To be informed on how to effectively pray for the nation we have created a weekly email tool called “The Informer.” It is weekly “intel” from our “scouts” in Washington D.C. who are searching for places where the “wall” of God’s protection needs repair.
One of the most power ways to pray is to pray the scriptures. This is a method of prayer that simply includes passages of scripture your prayers. The “Infomer” shows you how to do this if you have never done this.
If you don’t subscribe to “The Informer” you will receive information on how to sign up for this in an email when you submit the answers to the questions in this training session.
You can be an “Informer” for the Lord, too. Who is an Informer? One who provides critical intelligence on how we can pray for our communities and the nation.

Who are three people you know who would have a heart to pray for important issues in our nation?
Another important tool to pray effectively is our Top 130 Officials Bookmark. This is a very simple resource listing the nation’s top 130 officials by name and office. We print this a few times during the year to keep it current, and it can be purchased here (button link for store) or downloaded. A related resource is our 30 Ways to Pray Bookmark, listing Scripture that is pertinent as you commit to interceding for those in authority.

At Intercessors for America we believe that God desires us to participate with Him in shaping history through prayer. Because of this, we pray that you would be informed about current prayer needs, connected with other intercessors, and that you would mobilize those in your sphere of influence.
Objective: Upon the completion of this session you will understand the importance of connecting with other intercessors and be able to use IFA’s tools.
One of the most difficult things you can do as a Christian is to be an intercessor for your community and the nation. The challenge of making prayer a high priority is completely against the norm, against human nature. We like to stay busy. Sometimes we disguise this inner need under the guise of “serving” or “loving our neighbor.” Both of these principles are important, but the Lord first and foremost calls us to align ourselves with Him and what His will is for our lives, our community and our nation.
The tendency of not praying is most effectively battled by connecting with others. By connecting with other intercessors we will gain the encouragement needed to complete the battle on our knees.
The book of Acts is our example of connecting together for prayer: Acts 1:12-14; 24
What do you suppose these prayers were like? What was the result?
Read Acts 2:1 What was the result of these prayers?
Read Acts 2:42 After this revival what did the Church return to?
Read Acts 4:24 -31 What do you suppose the “miraculous” things were?
Connecting together for prayer has many effects:

We pray that you would be encouraged greatly by being connected and by connecting with others as we seek to “See God’s Purposes for America Fulfilled through Sustained Prayer and Spirit Led Obedience.” We have a monthly printed resource called The Connector that is focused on “connecting hearts of prayer for the nation to God and each other.” If you don’t currently receive this resource you will receive information through an email once you have submitted the answers to this session.
Objective: Upon the completion of this session you will have a vision for mobilized prayer. You will identify people around you who could be praying for the nation, and you will have a plan to engage them in intercession.
Imagine:
It is possible in your community and our nation… It has always been God’s plan: Since the fall of man in the garden, God has always had a plan for redemption – for you, for your family, for every aspect of your community, and even for the nation itself.
We have seen glimpses of the wonderful plan and blessing of God on the people of Israel whenthey sought him. He gave specific instructions to His people at critical times.
What did the Lord instruct His people to do in Jeremiah 29:7?
If you pray for specific needs within your community and the nation, what are these needs? If you are like most people, you have a list of daunting problems that seem impossible to fix. Don’t be discouraged. You are not the first and you won’t be the last. Read what the Psalmist wrote in Ps 84:5-7.
Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength,?till each appears before God in Zion”
If the Valley of Baca means a place of weeping or desert, what do you suppose the Psalmist could have experienced to have this place feel like a desert?
Have you ever felt that your community is like a desert? Why? Who are the hurting people? Describe all the aspects of your community that make it feel like a desert.
What is it about your community that would cause God to weep over it? If you could ask God to begin moving in your community in a very specific way, what would you ask for?
Write a prayer to God expressing the desires of your heart for Him to move in your community:
Are you willing to offer yourself for the task of bringing transformation to your community and our nation?
Look around you. Does your community and our nation need the touch of God? He is looking for those who will “stand in the gap” for their communities (Ezekiel 22:30).
Revival and Transformation usually begin with one or two people hearing the heartbeat of God.
God is calling you to be a “history maker” today! Do you hear the call? Now is the time to take the first step!
